Module 3 of 9 · A2 · Production routes and system boundaries

4.Route 3: aluminium products (forming)

Episode A2-04 · Forming aluminium products · 2:11

Unwrought aluminium is formed by extrusion, rolling, casting, forging or drawing.

Inside: fuel and flue-gas emissions from all linked processes, including re-melting, alloying, annealing and surface treatment. Excluded: cutting, welding and finishing.

Precursors: the unwrought aluminium and any aluminium products used. Keep primary and secondary metal apart where known, because their emissions differ greatly. No PFCs.

KEY Outsourced steps still count. If a step inside the boundary happens at another company and the goods come back to you, treat it as your own.
