Module 5 of 9 · A4 · Precursors in the aluminium value chain
1.What is a precursor here?
A precursor is an input that is itself a CBAM good.
| Goods category | Route | Possible precursors |
|---|---|---|
| Unwrought aluminium | Primary smelting | None |
| Unwrought aluminium | Secondary melting | Bought-in unwrought aluminium, if used |
| Aluminium products | All routes | Unwrought aluminium (primary and secondary kept apart); other aluminium products |
Not precursors (zero emissions): alumina, anodes, paste, cryolite, additives, and all scrap.
WATCH OUT Alloying elements that are not CBAM goods are left out of both the mass and the emissions.
