5.When the country of production is unknown

If you cannot prove where the metal was made (for example bought from a trader without a mill certificate), use the "highest default value" table. For unwrought aluminium (7601) that is 3,198 t CO2e/t, plus mark-up.

KEY Missing paperwork is expensive: 3,198 for unknown origin versus 1,870 for India or 1,700 for Malaysia (before mark-up). Mill certificates showing the installation and country pay for themselves.
